William R Acevedo

William “Pilin” Acevedo, age 83, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025. He was born on August 15, 1942, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to the late Telesforo Acevedo and Estevina Rodriguez.

William was the beloved husband of Zaida Acevedo. He was one of thirteen siblings: Samuel, Efrain, Telesforo Jr., Edwin, Neftali 'Talo', and Lucy, and is predeceased by David' Pipe', Luis, Ceaser, Gloria, Elizabeth 'Eli', and Dominga 'Minga'.

Raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico, William later relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut, at the age of 31, where he built a full and meaningful life surrounded by family and friends. He was a proud business owner, known for his strong work ethic, humor, and unmistakable personality. William was a loving man, a true jokester, and as many affectionately called him—an original gangster. He enjoyed playing dominoes, cards, and listening to salsa music, which brought joy and laughter to those around him.

William is survived by his loving wife, Zaida Acevedo, his children Wanda Acevedo, Evelyn Garcia, William Acevedo Jr., Zaida Acevedo-Vega, and Francisco Acevedo, along with their spouses David Garcia, Kelly Acevedo, Norberto Vega, and Johannie Acevedo. He is predeceased by his sons Nelson Acevedo and Osvaldo Acevedo.

He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Edwin and Jessica Figueroa, Ariana Acevedo, Migdalia Dali Acevedo, William Acevedo III, David William Acevedo, Shayna Ramos, Sarai Garcia, Emily Pietri, Abel Seda, Nelson Acevedo Jr., and Isaiah, as well as his adored great-grandchildren: Edwin Jr. (EJ), Joel, Zackary, Claudia, Gabriela, Amelia, Emelie, Alivia, Aviana, Nikolas, Jeriah, Velyn, Johanelis, Nelson N., Neliannie, Nerielis, Victoria, Maximo, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Community Funeral Chapels, 798 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut. Family and friends are invited to attend his service on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Puerto Rico.

William “Pilin” Acevedo will forever be remembered for his laughter, love for his family, and the vibrant spirit that will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
