Vito Florio

Vito Florio, age 94, of Bridgeport, CT; the widower of Antonia Florio, passed into heavenly rest Saturday, October 17th 2020 in his warm and comfy home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. In the old historical town of Rutigliano, Bari, Italy on May 6th 1926, Giovanni & Carmela Florio welcomed their beloved son Vito into this world. He was one of three, raised in the catholic faith and was a graceful servant of St. Anthony. At a young age Vito learned how to take care of their land. His family taught him gardening, cooking, and managing livestock. Vito took a great interest in the family trait with grapes, he produced wine for his region. Vito also served his country for 4 years in the Italian Military as a Bersagliere. He was successful and charming, by the age of 27 he met and married his true love Antonia. Their marriage was fruitful with five children. Vito instilled his beliefs, morals, and love to his family. In 1976 Vito was 50 years old when he rejoined his wife and children who had come to Connecticut prior to his arrival to be closer to his family. He worked with steel and was a great provider. Nonetheless he continued his passion for wine making and gardening, a craft he brought from Italy. Vito's flower garden was awarded the beautification recognition from the City of Bridgeport. He enjoyed keeping his property and neighborhood clean. Vito had a generous heart and enjoyed socializing and sharing his food and wine with his personal friends and family. He also donated and delivered food to his community on a weekly basis to the Daughters of Charities of Bridgeport. Besides his parents, Vito is reunited with his spouse of 50 years Antonia Florio and his two sons Giovanni and Pietro and in laws, Richard Evancho and Marcia Florio. Vito leaves to cherish his memory, brothers Michele and Nicola Florio and family, daughters Carmela DiSanto and Teresa Evancho and son Pasquale Pirulli and family and Lorenzo DiSanto son-in-law. His grandchildren, Liliana DiSanto, Melisa (Fernando) Carvalho, Richard Evancho, Susan (Scott) Olexovitch, Maria (Chris) Straborny, Nunzio (Angela) Pirulli, Antonella (Vito) Di Fino, John V. (Katherine ) Florio, Anthony Florio; ten great grandchildren, Matteo DiSanto Martin, Massimo Carvalho, Carmela Carvalho, Joseph Olexovitch, Jason Olexovitch, Pasquale Pirulli, Thaddeus Florio, Haley Florio, Ryan Straborny, Daniel Straborny; and just like the grapevines, many extended family as they continue to grow through generations.
