Vera Nichols

Vera Ellen Nichols of Bridgeport, widow of Wilbur S. Nichols Sr., entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 24th 2019 in Bridgeport Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Vera was born August 18th in Stamford, CT.; the beloved daughter of the late Ike Combs & Laura Hargette. She grew up attending Stamford Public Schools. Vera resided in Marina Apartments then Marina Village for many years. She worked at Rexham for over 35 years. She retired for a short time but later worked for ABCD Lafayette Day Care for over 23 years. She enjoyed reading story books to the children and serving their meals. Vera was an active voice in her community and served as one of the officers on the Marina Village Board. She was a great listener, advocator, and advisor to many. Vera had the ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She was a pillar, a fighter, a provider, and the matriarch of her family. She kept the peace and family together with her loving smile and patience. She was a firm believer in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Vera truly lived her life to the fullest through simple pleasures; gardening, chatting with loved ones, shopping, and spending time with her family. She will be missed deeply by those who had the honor of knowing her. In addition to her husband and parents, Vera was predeceased by: 3 brothers, Melvin, Donald, & Bruce Hargett; sister, Norma Scipio; and 2 sons, Marlon Nichols Sr., & Bruce R. Nichols. Vera is survived by: 3 daughters, Ellen M. Nichols of Derby, Darlene D. Nichols, Annette F. Nichols; 3 sons, Wilbur S. Nichols Jr., Donald Hargett, Christopher Nichols; sister, Viola Allen ; special niece, Pat Young all of Bridgeport; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends to cherish her memory. Friends may greet the family on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 11:00am to 12:00pm. A Home Going Service will proceed from 12:00pm to 1:30pm at Community Funeral Chapels, 798 Park Ave. Bridgeport, CT.
