In Loving Memory of Valda Lyn Gregory. November 4, 1942 – June 2, 2025
It is with deep sadness and great love that we announce the passing of Valda Lyn Gregory, affectionately known as Mammy, Mommy, Ms. Gregory, and Ms. Valda, who departed this life on June 2, 2025, at the age of 82 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Valda was born in Clarendon, Jamaica, to the late Alphius Gregory and Ireene Gregory. She was one of twelve siblings. She is predeceased by her siblings Riddley, Rickman, Lloyd, her sisters, Imo Jean, Velcey, Eglah, Pearl, and two other siblings that passed at a very young age, Lloydy and Edna, except her beloved brothers Clive and Linius, who continue to cherish her memory.
In 2022, Valda moved to the United States to be reunited with her family, bringing her warm spirit and infectious laughter into their daily lives. A devoted mother, she leaves behind her five children: Ramona, Elaine, Karen, Simone, and Keisha. She was a doting and playful grandmother to Lancedale, Mookie, Keshontae, and Maxonique, always willing to scream at scary movies or share eerie ghost stories that had the whole family listening intently.
Valda was a woman of deep faith. She loved watching the 3ABN SDA channel and never missed a chance to remind her children to "remember the Sabbath and serve God." A powerful prayer warrior, her favorite hymn was “Don’t Forget the Sabbath Day” and she often turned to Psalm 35 for strength. Her advice in times of hardship was simple yet profound: "No matter how difficult life gets, do what Jesus would do."
Her life was marked by simple joys: crocheting, reading, farming, singing, and most of all, spending time with her family. A cherished memory for her loved ones was surprising her with a trip to a resort in Jamaica—a time filled with laughter, relaxation, and the joy of togetherness.
Valda's legacy is one of love, faith, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. She touched many lives with her kindness, wisdom, and humor, and her spirit will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 18th, 2025, From 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Community Funeral Chapels 798 Park Ave. Bridgeport, Connecticut and on Thursday June 19th from 12:00 to 1:30PM at Bridgeport Tabernacle Seventh Day Adventist Church 717 Clinton Ave. Bridgeport CT 06604. Interment will follow at Mt. Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport CT.
