Ruth Marie Joel

Ruth Marie Joel, age 78, of Bridgeport, the widow of Comillus Joel, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 5, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital. Ruth was an avid gardener and devout spiritualist who also enjoyed creative arts, bowling, tennis, modeling, dancing, reading and she loved to write poetry. She loved to travel and enjoyed holistic practices. As the Matriarch of her family, she was fiercely loyal and nurturing as well as giving. Ruth was born on January 20, 1938 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Dancie & Mittis Avery. Besides her spouse and parents Ruth was predeceased by: son, Joell Joel, seven siblings, Iris Avery Harris, Ethelene Avery, Lillie Rodgriee Avery Melvin, Ella B. Melvin Hines, Hilbert Avery & Sherman Avery. Ruth is survived by: daughter, Selivia Avery Fowler & son-in-law Warren Fowler; son, James J. Joel; five brothers, Wayne Avery & sister-in-law Pastor Renee Avery, Sidney Avery, Ray Calvin Avery & sister-in-law Patty Avery, Elton Avery, Donald Melvin; two sisters, Peggy Melvin, Francis Melvin; six grandchildren, Rayon Bernard (Nikki), Velerita Bernard ( Paul Smith), Lakish McComb (Henry Mc Comb Sr.), Jackqueline Bernard(Jose Batista Sr.), Gregory Bernard ( Crystal Davis), Arlethia Bernard (Dennis Jennings); twelve great grandchildren, all of Bridgeport, and a host of extended family and friends that will cherish Ruth's memory. A Celebration of Ruth's Life will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm the viewing from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Community Funeral Chapels 798 Park Ave. Bridgeport, CT 06604 TEL: 203-334-9999.
