Ruben Goodwin

Ruben Gerald Goodwin, 64, of Bridgeport, CT entered eternal rest on September 8th, 2019 at St. Joseph's Manor in Trumbull, CT. Ruben was born on July 29, 1955 in Bridgeport, CT and was a long time resident of Stratford, CT. Ruben was the beloved son of Bernice and Josh Goodwin who predeceased him. Ruben was employed as a manager at the Kennedy Center for many years. He provided consultation services for local private owned businesses as his secondary job. After high school, Ruben continued his education at Housatonic Community College where he earned an associate's degree. Ruben or "Ru" as he was affectionately known, was outgoing, and had a big personality. He loved life, and was often the "life of the party." There was never a dull moment when Ruben was present. He was known to belt out a gospel tune at family gatherings and holidays, and sing he would. He was the entertainment. Ruben really enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends over a good home cooked meal. Ruben was multi-skilled, well rounded and business savvy. He seemed to know a little bit about almost everything. In Ruben's free time he could be found reading law books, watching one of his favorite tv shows, or showing his sons and nephews the latest boxing moves. Ruben will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. He is survived by one sister, Thenell (Lidell) Pettway; one brother, Jimmy Goodwin; the mother of his children, Joyce Goodwin; two sons, Ruben Goodwin Jr. and Charles Goodwin; two nieces, Theresa (Andre) O'Connor and Alisha Pettway; two nephews, Lidell Pettway III and Michael Pettway; a number of great nieces and nephews, and a host of extended relatives and friends who will cherish his memory. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 19th, 6:00pm at Friendship Baptist Church, 235 Albert Ave, Stratford, CT.
