Rosa Myrtha 'Mama Rosa' Cruz

Rosa Myrtha Cruz, age 77 of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 8, 2017 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Rosa was born October 20, 1940 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the beloved daughter of the late Juan Reyes & Guadalupe Rojas. She was raised in Santurce, Puerto Rico, but moved to New York City in 1961. Rosa later relocated once again and has been a resident of Bridgeport since 1993. She worked for the board of education as a teacher for ten years. Rosa was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was affectionately known as "Mama Rosa" and was dedicated to her role as her family's matriarch. Rosa was strong, supportive, and always gave the best advice. Her love and compassion was limitless. Rosa was a ‘giver,' always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking, sewing, and playing bingo. She especially enjoyed dancing to her favorite music. Rosa's beautiful smile and laugh will be remembered and missed dearly by all who had the honor of knowing her. Besides her parents, Rosa was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Francisco Davila; son, Jerry Cruz; daughter, Magalia Davila, and two siblings. Rosa is survived by: six children; daughter Aracelis Cruz & son-in-law Graciano Casarez of Bridgeport; son, Angel Cruz & daughter-in-law Margarita Rivera of Staten Island; son, Daniel Cruz of Bridgeport; son, Francisco Davila & daughter-in-law Maureen Hunt of New Jersey; daughter, Magili Davila of Bridgeport; son, Owen Davila of Bridgeport; four siblings; Amparo, Carmen, Antolina, Lydia; thirteen grandchildren; Monica Valerio, Angel Cruz, Robert Alvarez, Courtney Davila, Rosa Alvarez, Kaitlyn Davila, Angela Cruz, Jerry Davila, Brandon Garcia, Tanaima Cruz, Talyah Candelario, Mario Rivera, Michael Rivera; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends who will cherish Rosa's memory.
