It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Ortega Rivera, known to his family and friends as Rich, at the age of 61. He died on December 1, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Born on May 26, 1963, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Richard was the beloved son of Juan Ortega, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Carmen Maria Rivera, also from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Richard was raised in Bridgeport, CT, where he became known for his infectious charisma, humble nature, and sense of humor. Richard will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his warm and generous spirit. He was an all-around great person who always brought joy and laughter to those around him. His humble and funny personality left a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Richard was the proud father of two children: Richard Ortega, Jr. and Stephanie Ortega. He was also the doting grandfather to six grandchildren: Aaliyah Lopez, Amirah Ortega, Arielle Ortega, Rashad Killings, Richard Ortega III, and Rico Ortega.
Richard is predeceased by his father, Juan Ortega, and his cousin and close brother, Jesus Rivera. He is survived by his loving mother, Carmen Rivera, his children, and his grandchildren. He will also be dearly missed by his cousins, who were like siblings to him: Sixto Nieves, Eva Nieves, Gloria Rivera, Enrique Ortega Jr., and Nancy Ortega, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and countless friends who considered him family.
A truly remarkable person, Richard’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the love and laughter he shared with them.
Services will be held on December 6, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Community Funeral Chapels 798 Park Ave Bridgeport, CT 06604. Interment will be held privately. Post a memory or light a virtual candle at www.communityfuneralchapels.com.
