Patrick C. Ijeh

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick C. Ijeh, affectionately known as ‘Oyinbo,’ on January 23, 2025, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT.


Born on July 21, 1946, in Kaduna, Nigeria, Patrick was raised in Asaba, Nigeria, where he attended St. Patrick’s College. He later moved to Lagos, Nigeria, where he began his career as a civil servant with the Railway Corporation. In 1969, he married his beloved wife, Bernice Ijeh. Shortly thereafter, they moved to the United States, where Patrick continued his studies and worked tirelessly to provide for his family.


Patrick worked as a respiratory therapist at Cleveland Clinic Hospital before pursuing a degree in accounting at Myers College in Cleveland, Ohio. He went on to work for the Internal Revenue Service in Norwalk, CT, before transitioning to a fulfilling career as a substitute teacher in Bridgeport, CT. Throughout his professional journey, Patrick was admired for his dedication, hard work, and intelligence. He took immense pride in his work and embodied unwavering strength and determination in all his endeavors.


Patrick’s warmth and charisma made him a beloved figure in his community. He had a keen interest in current events and loved staying informed by watching news programs. His passion for sports was also evident, as he was a true enthusiast, always ready to discuss the latest games and scores. Patrick’s achievements, both educational and professional, served as an inspiration to all who knew him.


In addition to his wife, Bernice Ijeh, Patrick is survived by his four children: Bridget Akinsanya, Peter Ijeh, Christopher Ijeh, and Richard Ijeh. He was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, who brought him much joy. Patrick is predeceased by his parents and seven siblings.


Patrick’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His devotion to his family, his work, and his community will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace.
