Nerida 'Nelly' Dejesus

Nerida DeJesus, age 76 of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Nerida was born August 25, 1941 in Moca, Puerto Rico, the beloved daughter of the late Nasario Gonzalez & Tomasa Echevarria. She has been a Bridgeport resident since 1962. Nelly, as she was affectionately known, was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had incredible strength and courage. Although sometimes stubborn and ‘set in her ways,' Nelly was warm, nurturing, and caring. She worked as a nurse's aide for Visiting Nurses of Bridgeport and Roncalli Health Center for over twenty years. Nelly was a faithful and devote servant of God, who dedicated her time to making sure her daughters were raised in church. She always attended bible study, and prayed every day. Those lucky enough to have known Nelly will miss her dearly. Nelly is survived by: daughter, Neida Garcia & son-in-law Jose Garcia of Bridgeport; daughter, Bernice Martinez & son-in-law Angel Martinez of Bridgeport; sister, Carmen Hernandez; sister, Milagros Perez & brother-in-law, Agustin Perez; sister, Aida Rodriguez & brother-in-law Isias; brother, Samuel Gonzalez; sister, Iris Nilda Gonzalez; three granddaughters, Victoria, Gabrielle, Isabella; and a host of extended family and friends who will cherish her memory.
