Mavis May Allen, age 86, of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 14th, 2013 at St. Vincent's Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Mavis was born Monday, June 13th, 1927 in St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies the oldest of three children born to Corine Martin. For many years Mavis was the chef/owner of the Enid Corner Restaurant in Jamaica before coming to Bridgeport in 1985 where she worked for many years as an administrative assistant at LaFent Electronic. A strong willed, independent woman Mavis was a loving family matriarch who enjoyed gardening and cooking and sharing the fruits of those labors with others. Mavis' generosity, her kindness of spirit will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Mavis May is survived by her adoring children; Norma (Alfonso) Ferguson of GA, Renorth (Jennifer) McQueen of Jamaica, Lavern (Vennisa) McQueen of GA, Clive (Winsom) McQueen of CT, Leonie McQueen of CT, and Durmath (Ki-sharna) McQueen of Jamaica. Mavis was the proud grandmother of 34 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 7 great -great grandchildren in whose smiles and laughter she will always be found. Additionally Mavis leaves behind a host of friends and family who will always treasure their memories of her. In death she reunites with her beloved mother, Corine, and with her adored children, John and Bentley McQueen who predeceased her.
