Maria Milagros Gonzalez Reyes

August 30, 1946 — September 11, 2024

With deep pain, we announce the death of María Milagros González Reyes, affectionately known to all as “Milagros”. Milagros departed this world on September 11, 2024, at Bridgeport Hospital, at the age of 78. Her departure leaves an immense void in the hearts of her family and friends.

Born on August 30, 1946, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, Milagros was a figure full of life, love, and passion. She was the daughter of María Montero and Hipólito Reyes, and sister of Carmen Julia, Digna, Luis, Margarita, Gloria, Tony, Luza, Ángel, Josephine and Samuel. Raised in her homeland, she moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she resided for the past 25 years. Her lively spirit and unforgettable character made her a fundamental pillar in the lives of those who knew her.

Milagros was married to Alfredo González Rodríguez for 60 years, a love that she demonstrated at every moment, even which Milagros was jealous of “even a mapo in a skirt.” Together they formed a loving family that always saw her as a pillar of unconditional support.

Her life was full of joy, love and a special mix of character and tenderness. Milagros loved spending time with her family, and her Christmas parties were legendary. She loved cooking, especially her favorite dishes like arroz con gandules, pies and sorullitos. There was no visitor to her home who did not take a piece of her generosity and affection. Her grandchildren, who were always her weakness, were treated with special affection, although sometimes the gandule wands were in charge of disciplining them with a smile.

She was passionate about Bingo, dominoes and pokeno, and never missed an opportunity to play with fervor, always ready to fight with destiny for a victory. Her favorite phrase upon winning was, with a mixture of humility and mischief: “I earned my way to the house.”

Milagros also worked in various occupations, from picking coffee in Puerto Rico to working in coffee shops, Las Tunas, and candy stores in Connecticut. Her dedication and hard work were a reflection of her indomitable character and her love for life.

Her legacy lives on in her five children: Mirta Ivette González Reyes, Marilyn González Reyes, Milagros González Reyes, Adalexie González Reyes and Jovany González Reyes, who will always remember his unconditional love and warmth.

Milagros, your love, your character and your joy will continue to live on in every story told and in every dish served. Milagros leaves behind nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends that will cherish her memory  and carry her in their hearts forever.

Rest in peace.
