Luz Perez, 74, passed away on February 20, 2025, in Bridgeport, Connecticut at St.Vincent's Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 20, 1950, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Guillermo Avila and Victoria Santiago.
Luz is survived by her daughter, Migdalia Perez and her spouse ; her son, Ismael Perez and his spouse ; and her cherished grandchildren—Rosenda Santana, Marco Santana, Steven Santana, Faraha Perez, and Saran Perez— and all of their spouses, as well as all of her great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, and her beloved husband, Richard Mentes.
Luz had a vibrant spirit and lived life on her own terms. She was known for her kindness, humor, and quick wit—qualities that endeared her to many friends who will deeply miss her presence. She had a passion for arts and crafts and found joy in creating beautiful things with her hands. A novice gardener, she enjoyed tending to plants and watching them grow. She also loved visiting friends and sharing moments of laughter and warmth. Her cat TayTay held a special place in her heart, always receiving treats from Luz’s generous hand.
Above all else, Luz adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—they were the light of her life. Her love for them was immeasurable and unwavering. Though she often teased that she was a "pain in Richard’s a**" he loved his “Woobie” dearly, a testament to their deep bond and shared sense of humor.
Luz’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May the joy she brought to others continue to shine through the lives she touched.
