Luis M. Paz Jr., known affectionately as “Cuba,” of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2026, at the age of 82.
Born in Puerto Padre, Cuba, Luis was the beloved son of the late Luis M. Paz Sr. and Elisa Batista. He was predeceased by his sister, Melva Paz Rivera, and brother-in-law Santo Batista. He is survived by his loving siblings: Mayra Paz Batista, Amarilis Pitzschler, her husband John, Jose “Tony” Paz, and his wife Julia.
Luis was a devoted father to his four children: Elizabeth, Gilbert and his wife Janine, Michael, and Luis and his wife Suly. He was a proud grandfather to Carlos and his wife Eunice, Danny and his wife Brianna, Mikey, Amanda, Joaquin, Amber, Alyssa, and Mya and her husband Josue, as well as a cherished great-grandfather to Jonah, Amelia, Melanie, Lola, Mabel, Junior, Maverick, Luca, Ryder. He also leaves behind several nephews and a niece.
Luis lived life with passion and personality. In his younger years, he was an excellent softball player and carried that love of sports throughout his life as a devoted New York Yankees fan. He had a deep appreciation for music, especially boleros and classic salsa, which often filled his home.
Luis had many interests that brought him joy, including collecting knives and watches, shopping on QVC, visiting the casino, fishing, and cooking. As a child, he loved sweets—a trait he never lost. He also enjoyed his rum and was always ready for a lively “debate,” often spending hours talking with family and friends.
Above all, Luis was a proud Cuban and a dedicated family man. He was a hardworking provider who would go without, ensuring his children had what they needed. His greatest pride was his family, and he loved them deeply.
Luis will be remembered for his strength, his spirit, and the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, resilience, and unforgettable memories that will live on in all who knew and loved him.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Community Funeral Chapels, 798 Park Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06610. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 29, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Family and friends are welcome.
