Luis Alberto Nieves Sr., age 55 of Bridgeport, Ct. entered into eternal rest on the morning of Friday, January 19th, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Ct. Luis passed away peacefully in his sleep after a courageous battle against ESRD and other health complications. Luis was welcomed into this world on Tuesday, August 7th, 1962 in Lares, Puerto Rico by his loving parents the late Rosendo Nieves and Wilma Emilia Nieves. He went to La Segunda Unidad de Piletas (Elementary School) and Domingo Aponte Collazo Escuela Superior (High School) both in Lares, Puerto Rico. Few people in this world know exactly what they want to be when they grow up, but Luis was special, he had a dream since he was a small child to become a school bus driver, and he would sit behind his bus driver and watch him carefully and imitate everything he did. At the age of 18 he achieved that dream when he started working as a school Bus Driver in Stamford, Ct. He continued to be a bus driver for 37 years for multiple bus companies including Laidlaw, First Student, and lastly finishing his last years driving in Bridgeport, Ct. for We Transportation. He was forced to stop working in July of 2016 because of his health, and he truly missed working every day. He was loved by his coworkers and the kids he drove. He would always get beautiful cards and gifts from the students he drove. He received multiple awards and gifts for attendance, safety, and employee of the month throughout the years. Luis loved to travel and he loved taking on school field trips because it gave him the opportunity to explore and travel far, but Puerto Rico was always one of his most beloved places to visit. He was also an avid photographer and there wasn't a day he wasn't taking pictures or videos of people and places, he took thousands of pictures in his lifetime. Luis was very passionate about cars and modifying them. He enjoyed being on his laptop and phone, and being on social media and web browsing. He loved looking at videos on YouTube especially ones about transportation like planes, buses, and trains. He liked listening to all types of music and had a very large collection. Luis was also an enthusiastic Pepsi fan. He searched for and collected everything he could find that said Pepsi. He would get so excited every time he found something or when someone would give him an item to add to his collection. Luis was a loving and devoted husband to Aida Luz Gonzalez Nieves. They were blessed to be together for 38 wonderful years and their love will be eternal. They were inseparable and will one day be reunited again. He was an amazing father to Jennifer Luz Nieves Garcia and Luis Alberto Nieves Jr. He was the greatest grandfather to his only grandson Manuel Plinioalberto Garcia, age 7 who he loved with all his might and gave all his time to every day. He was also the best father-in-law one could ask for to Plinio Manuel Garcia and Megan Ann McCarthy who he loved as his own children. Luis loved his family and was completely devoted to them. He always worked hard to make sure everyone was provided for and nothing was ever needed. Most importantly he gave all of his love and time to them. When Luis wasn't working he was at home with his family. He was their center of the universe, their rock, the one person they could always count on and turn to in bad times and good times. Luis is survived by spouse, Aida Luz Gonzalez Nieves; two children, Jennifer Luz Nieves Garcia and Luis Alberto Nieves Jr.; son-in-law, Plinio Manuel Garcia; daughter-in-law, Megan Ann McCarthy; one grandson, Manuel Plinioalberto Garcia; two brothers and four sisters, Carmen L. Nieves, Hector M. Nieves, Gladys Nieves Nunez, Norma I. Nieves Auguste, Miguel A. Nieves, and Sylvia Y. Nieves; and a host of extended family and friends. Luis is predeceased by his parents Rosendo Nieves and Wilma Emilia Nieves. Luis will be remembered as an honest, hardworking, loving family man who was full of life and joy, and a great friend and coworker. As a man who would light up a room with his smile and would make everyone laugh with his great humor. Luis was one of a kind, with a heart of gold full of love for everyone. He was a beautiful soul that touched many lives and we are all blessed for it. Luis will never be forgotten and will live in our hearts always. We must cherish and remember the precious moments we had with him and we must celebrate him and share our memories of him so that he remains alive for generations to come. We must remember that though it is heartbreaking to have lost him, he is now at peace with God in heaven and with our departed family and friends. He no longer feels suffering. We know he is watching over us from up above as he did here on earth. One day we will all be together again.
