Lucia Matias Vadi 'Lucy' Raucci

Lucia Matias Vadi Raucci, "Lucy", age 63 of West Haven, entered into eternal peace, Wednesday February 20, 2013 at her home with her loving family by her side. Lucy was born June 24, 1949 in Salinas, Puerto Rico the loving daughter of Gonzalo and Adela Matias. Lucy's parents brought her to Connecticut in 1950 and she was proud to call it home ever since, even running for public office as her district's State Representative. A hairstylist, Lucia operated her own salon in the Bridgeport area for many years and later was a featured stylist at several local salons, including Hair Groves and Salina's in Bridgeport. Her passion for hairstyling led Lucy to share her knowledge and skill with others as an instructor at both Leon's and National Academy. Lucy was an active member of the Women's Democratic Association and fearless advocate for the people of her community. She battled with breast cancer and was an impassioned patient advocate and speaker at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Lucy is greatly missed by her family and friends and her memories will remain cherished forever by them. Lucy is predeceased by her loving parents, Gonzalo and Adela, and three siblings Concepcion Torres, Gonzalo Matias Jr. and Joe Beilty Matias. She is survived by her devoted husband and friend, Edward Raucci, her daughters, Tina Marie (Pablo) Figueroa of West Haven, CT and Edanya (Joseph) Buckley of Terryville, CT and her grandson Jakob Buckley. Lucy also leaves behind her siblings Josephine Matias, Angelia Matias and Anna (Juan) Maldonado as well as a host of extended family and friends.
