Juanita "Juana" Valdez, age 76, loving mother and grandmother known by those in her community as "Wella" passed away surrounded by her family on March 19, 2016 in Bridgeport, CT. Born in Caugus, PR on June 12, 1939 to Benita Diaz Valdez and Isadoro Valdez. She left her beloved homeland for the U.S. in 1964 to make a better life for her children. She settled in Bridgeport, CT and has been a resident of P.T. Barnum Apartments since 1972. Juana was a sassy and active woman who loved to be outdoors. She would never miss her walk to the local store to play her daily numbers. She loved contributing to her community and was longtime volunteer of St. Stephens Pantry. Juana absolutely loved to be in her kitchen cooking her favorite Puerto Rican foods and would make sure everyone had something to eat no matter who they were. She was not only a beloved "Wella" to her own grandchildren but to those in her community. Juana is preceded in death by her parents, Benita and Isadoro and sisters Julia and Teeni Valdez. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her husband of 44 years Carlos Baez, Sr.; children, Carmen Torres, Andres Torres, Lucy Torres, Geraldo Torres, Vivian Torres, Adoracion Benitez, and Carlos Baez, Jr.; sister, Marguerita Valdez; 19 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; as well as a number of other relatives and close friends.
