Joyce Gloria Griffiths, affectionately known to her siblings as "Miss Lue," was born on May 28, 1934 to Luther and Susan Austin in the parish of Trelawny on the beautiful island of Jamaica. She attended Ulster Spring Elementary School and passed the Jamaica Local examinations. In her adult years, she moved to Kingston where she studied at The Mico Teachers' College where she received training as an elementary school teacher. She taught for many years in Kingston and St Andrew in Jamaica. She was married to the late Cleveland Griffiths for whom she bore six children. Joyce migrated to the United States in the late 1980s and lived in Irvington, New Jersey for more than 20 years. Joyce received training as a Nurse's Aide and in Child Care. She worked for many years in both fields until she retired more than a decade ago. Due to illness she later moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut where she resided with her daughter Juliet until her death on August 20, 2016. She was a faithful and well-loved member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She was active in all church activities, served as an usher and in the After-School Program where she assisted students with their homework. Joyce leaves to mourn her death: Five children - Juliet, Milton, Florence, Dorothy, and Osric, Five siblings - Una, Vivia, Eulalee, Lyn, Mary and Justin, Nine grandchildren, eight nieces, two nephews, many grandnieces and nephews, sister-in-law (Pauline), brother-in-law (Venris), caregivers and numerous friends. Joyce will be truly missed by her family, church family, friends, and loved ones.
