Jesus Gregorio Abrams Larroy

Jesus G. "Chucho" Abrams, 81, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, in New Haven, Connecticut. Born on October 1, 1943, in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, he brought joy and warmth to all who knew him throughout his long and vibrant life.

Chucho built a life rooted in hard work and community. He worked as a landscaper, a profession that reflected his deep love for the outdoors and his natural talent for nurturing beauty from the earth. His passion for gardening extended beyond work—his home was always surrounded by flourishing plants that he tended with care and pride.

Known affectionately as “the life of the party,” Chucho had an infectious spirit that lit up every room—or street corner—he entered. He had a special fondness for dancing “the twist,” often with a cold beer in hand, which he lovingly referred to as his “mayumba.” Whether it was music playing or dominoes clacking on the table, Chucho’s laughter and energy were never far behind.

He found great joy in simple pleasures: playing card games with friends, fishing trips from their favorite spot “Under the Tree” at the “Punto” downtown, or preparing meals to share with loved ones. Cooking was one of his greatest expressions of love—he delighted in feeding everyone around him and making sure no one ever left hungry.

Family was at the heart of Chucho’s world. He is lovingly remembered by his children Jessie, Julio, Juan, Ivelys, Iris, and Marie along with their spouses. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Yaris, Jason, William, Tanisha, Jessie Jr., Melyna, Jacob, Melaysha, Jayden, Isaiah, Mekayla, Jessiah, Alexa, and Mason; as well as numerous great-grandchildren who will carry forward his stories and spirit.

He also leaves behind siblings, nieces, nephews—and countless friends who became like family over the years like Hector,and Tonin. Though he experienced profound loss with the passing of his parents, siblings, wife, and a child before him, Chucho remained a pillar of strength and love for those around him.

A funeral service honoring Jesus G. "Chucho" Abrams will be held on August 22 from 6-8pm at Community Funeral Chapel on 798 Park Avenue Bridgeport, CT 06604.

His memory lives on in every garden blooming under careful hands; in every game of dominoes played under shady trees; in every shared meal filled with laughter; and in every dance step taken when no one is watching.
