James Henry Stewart

James Henry Stewart, age 93, of Stratford, entered into peaceful sleep on Tuesday, January 1st, 2013, at Bridgeport Hospital. James is predeceased by his wife of 56 years Lorraine Baker Stewart and son Bryan Henry Stewart. James served our country in the army during WWII. He was Union President at Bullard's before he retired after 36 years of service and a lifetime member in the VFW serving as Commander of VFW Post 9991 and the Commander of District 1. James enjoyed tending to his large vegetable garden where he grew the best tomatoes. He was also known for the beauty of his flowers and was happy to share his green thumb knowledge. Having a passion for cooking and he loved sharing his skill with family and friends who thoroughly enjoyed his efforts. James was born April 8, 1919 in Hampton, Virginia. The son of the late William & Margaret Stewart, he was the youngest of two. His survivors include his son Lee Morris Alston of Jackson, MS and daughter Margaret Stewart Davis of Stratford, CT, granddaughter Julienne Alston, two great grandchildren Adalia and Angelo Alston of Hammond, IN, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. James also leaves his special friends Carlton Muse and his wife Fannie, Carmen Velez and her children.
