Jack Dempsey Wilson, age 82, of Bridgeport, CT entered Heaven's gates on February 6, 2021, at the Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. On October 7, 1938, Jack was welcomed into the world by his beloved parents Johnnie and Hattie Rogers-Wilson in Mobile, Alabama. He was the second son of the late Johnnie and Hattie Rogers-Wilson. If you asked one hundred people about Jack Wilson, they would all have a different story to tell. Some will tell you about Jack the pool shark and the spades hustler, while others will tell you how he would help a stranger on the street that needed some extra cash and end up bringing things home that he did not have any use for. Jack worked hard to provide for his family. He was an auto mechanic that could hear a piston out of synch before picking up a wrench. He worked at Redman Chevrolet, for the City of Stamford and Bridgeport, drove tractor-trailers, and started a social club aka hard work and a dream. But if you really want to know about him, just ask his family and friends. Jack was affectionately known as "Lassie" by his family in Alabama, "Jack of Spades" or "Big Jack" by his friends, and "#1Bluebird" by his CB buddies. Can you hear him? "you got the #1Bluebird here come-on". But his favorite people called him Dad, Father, Grandpa, or Poppy. Our house is where many relatives called home. Jack's mission was not just to care for his growing family, but his extended family, and the many he was a father figure to. From Alabama to Connecticut, many loved him for his willingness and helping nature. Jack is predeceased by his parents, Johnnie & Hattie Wilson; brother Woodrow Wilson; sisters Purlie Mae Wilson, Lottie M. Wilson, Flora Jones, Rosie Bond, Elnora Valentine, and Sylvia Lockhart-Sheppard; sons, Jack Jr. and Darryl Wilson, and granddaughter Wynonna Faye Wilson. Jack's memory will be cherished by his loving wife Virgie Wilson of Bridgeport; devoted children, Bridget Hall (Stratford), Angela Wilson-Brown (Bridgeport), Anthony Wilson, Jackie (Tracey) Wilson, (Bridgeport), Cheryl Wilson (Bridgeport), Brenda (Ronnie) Fields (North Carolina), Jacqueline (Kevin) Fulmore-Blake (Norwalk), Tina Parker (Georgia), Marcus (Carolyn) Freeman (Stratford), and Pamela Edwards (Stratford). 23 loving grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, siblings Theodore Wilson (Bridgeport), Katie Wilson and Amy McKinney (New Haven), Samuel Wilson (Florida), and eight loving in-laws.
