Iris E. Feliu

Iris E. Feliu Iris E. Feliu, age 87, of Bridgeport, entered peacefully into eternal rest, Saturday, March 12th, 2011 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport after a long illness. Iris was born February 20th, 1924 in Isabela, Puerto Rico to the late Antonio Gevara and Rosario Abreu. She traveled first to New York and then to Connecticut, where she settled in Bridgeport in 1948. Iris was married to the late Reinaldo Feliu for forty-nine years. After working in several local factories in Bridgeport, Iris owned and operated several grocery stores during her life, beginning with David's Grocery Store on Bostwick Avenue, followed by Columbus Market on Harrall Avenue, and later Ray and Mike's Deli and Grocery Store on Barnum Avenue. She was always courteous and helpful to her customers, and loved to spend hours in the store talking with them about any topics of the day. A supportive and loving mother to her only beloved son, Attorney David N. Feliu, Iris enjoyed her two grandchildren, Gabriel David Feliu and Erica Grace Feliu of Cheshire, Connecticut. Iris was a parishioner of Saint Andrews Church in Bridgeport. She loved doing things for others, and loved her occasional trips to the casino and daily lottery tickets. In addition to her son and grandchildren, Iris is survived by her brother Pablo Abreu and sister-in-law Mercedes Abreu of Florida, and her sister Elba Lydia Medina of Bridgeport. She was predeceased by her brothers Carlos Abreu and Ruben Abreu. She is also survived by her sister- in-law Carmen Abreu of Florida, her sister-in-law Maria Matuzka, and her many nieces and nephews, Ruben Jr., Charo, Iris, Carlos, Cesar, Christopher, Clark, Rebecca, Pablo Jr., and Iris Rosario. Iris will be deeply missed and her memory will be cherished by many. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 18th, 2011, commencing at Community Funeral Chapels from 8:30 am to 9:30 am following to St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton Street, BPT for 10:00 am mass. Interment will follow to St. Michael's Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Avenue, Stratford, CT. Friends may greet the family Thursday, March 17th, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Community Funeral Chapels, 798 Park Avenue, Bridgeport.
