Gregorio T Rivera

Gregorio T. "Gollo" Rivera, 85, of Bridgeport, CT entered into eternal rest on Wednesday January 3, 2018, at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. Gregorio was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico., son of the late Juan Rivera and Aurelia Tirado. He grew up in Arecibo with three brothers and two sisters. Gregorio migrated to New Jersey in 1954 for a better life for his son and wife. He found work immediately as a bus boy at Princeton University. In 1957, after hearing of many job opportunities in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he moved his family and started working at Bridgeport Fittings Inc. He started as a machine operator and worked his way up to Supervisor of die cast where he eventually retired. He was a very hard worker and very social. Gregorio enjoyed baseball and played on a travel softball team which he loved. He was an avid Mets fan and frequently watched games with his son. Gregorio was a devoted family man and his greatest joy was spending time with his son, daughter in law, granddaughters and great grandchildren. He was known for his jokes and lively spirit. His energy and smiles would always light up a room. He visited the casinos often and travelled to many places. In his older years, he enjoyed word search puzzles and spending time with his great grandchildren. Gregorio was predeceased by his first wife Juana Ortiz Rivera and his second wife Aida L Rivera; survived by his son Nelson Rivera, daughter in law Maria D Rivera, granddaughters Natalie Calder, Juana M Torres, Marcie Riley and her husband Brendan Riley as well as his great grandchildren Elijah Cartagena, Aleida Cartagena, Xavier Torres, Gianni Gomez, Charley Riley, Kennedy Riley and his "adopted" grandson Zachary Schultz whom he affectionately nicknamed "Gringo." and a host of extended family and friends who will cherish his memory.
