It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frank Lopez Cancel, known to his loved ones as Frankie, who passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 55. Frankie was born in the Bronx, NY, on November 9, 1969, to Maria Lopez Garcia and Julio Cancel. He was the beloved son, brother, father, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Raised in New York, Frankie’s family moved to Connecticut when he was just nine years old to start a new chapter in their lives. He was one of five siblings: Julio Cancel, Michelle Cancel, Jeannette Lopez, Joanne Cancel, and Kiesha Ruiz.
Frankie was a man of many passions. He had a deep love for cars, music, and working with his hands. Whether fixing things around the house or working on old cars, Frankie found joy in creating and restoring. His love for music, especially Bob Marley, who he considered an idol, was a constant in his life. Frankie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his son, Jack, whom he adored.
A retired carpenter and pool technician, Frankie took pride in his work, always finding satisfaction in a job well done. Outside of work, Frankie enjoyed the company of his friends, often attending parties and spending time with those closest to him. He was a social soul who loved to laugh and live life to the fullest. He also cherished his loyal dog, Koda, who was always by his side.
Frankie is predeceased by his father, Julio Cancel, and his beloved spouse, Cori Burke, who passed in 2019. He is survived by his loving mother, Maria Lopez Garcia, his son, Jack Frank Cancel, his five siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends who will carry his memory forever in their hearts.
Frankie was a caring and strong man who made lasting impressions on everyone he met. His family and friends will hold onto the many cherished memories they shared with him, knowing that his spirit will live on in the love and joy he gave to all around him.
A celebration of Frankie’s life will be held at a later date, and details will be shared with loved ones.
Rest in peace, Frankie. You will be dearly missed.
