Evadney Larone Lyons-Collins

March 15, 1949 — January 10, 2025

Evadney “Yvonne/Eva” Larone Collins, 75, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025. A woman of great warmth and joy, Evadney was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose legacy will forever be cherished by all who had the honor of knowing her.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Evadney was the beloved daughter of the late Jabes Gordon and Vera Porter. She was one of seven siblings, including Elaine Matthews of Cary, NC; Patrick Dixon (Jean) of Palm Bay, FL; Linnette Reid of New York, NY; and Ricky Gordon of England. She was predeceased by her brother Rupert Dixon, her sister Cynthia Brown, and her cherished dog, Mikie.

At the age of 23, Evadney moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1972, in search of new opportunities and a brighter future. There, she raised her three children: Tracyann Louden of Snellville, GA; Romeo Garvin of Stratford, CT; and Michael Collins (Rosa) of Bridgeport, CT. She also lovingly adopted three more children, Kenneth Collins of Bridgeport, CT; Leonard Collins of Waterbury, CT; and Keonte Collins of Bridgeport, CT, whom she adored and nurtured with the utmost care.

Evadney found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, Tierra, Romeo, Tatianah, Taniya, Adieliah, Keonte, as well as her great-grandchildren: Jayceon, Jordyn, Ja'Elle, Janiyah, Romeo, Jasai, and Ez'riah. Her beloved dog, “Mikey,” was also a cherished companion.

In addition to her family, Evadney had a remarkable bond with her community. As a compassionate and dedicated foster mother for many years with the Department of Children and Families, she impacted the lives of countless children, providing love and stability. She was also employed as a factory worker, showing her hard-working and caring nature.

Evadney's love for life was evident in everything she did. She enjoyed boating, fishing, dancing, and listening to a wide variety of music, including old-time gospel, country, and rhythm & blues. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family and friends, and her spirit was a light to all who knew her. Evadney was an independent woman, often making others laugh with her quick wit and unapologetically living life on her own terms, regardless of societal norms or pronunciations.

Her deep spirituality provided her with strength and peace, and her legacy of love, compassion, and joy will continue to inspire everyone she touched. Evadney was a shining example of selflessness, kindness, and living life with a joyful heart. She leaves behind a host of family, friends, and loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

May Evadney rest in eternal peace, surrounded by love, and may her memory continue to be a source of inspiration for all who were fortunate enough to know her.
