Ernest Leroy “Roy” Peppers, age 61, of Stratford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital. Born on October 6, 1964, in Louisburg, North Carolina, Roy was the beloved son of the late Charles Peppers, Sr. and Gayle High, and was lovingly raised by his older siblings, Martina Spivey and Charles Peppers, Jr.Roy spent his early years in Bunn, North Carolina, before relocating to Bridgeport, Connecticut at age sixteen to live with his aunt and sisters.
From an early age, Roy’s life was marked by generosity, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to his community. He was loving and caring—sometimes to a fault—and always saw the good in others and the value in all things.A true jack of all trades, Roy was known for his resourcefulness and boundless creativity. He was a collector of all things, a tinkerer, and a motorcycle enthusiast. A longtime member of the Committed Soul Motorcycle Club, Roy took great pride in restoring and working on cars and motorcycles. He loved to cook, especially for a crowd, and enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends.Roy enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18, demonstrating his commitment to service and discipline early in life. After his military service, he went on to work for the City of Bridgeport as a Truancy Officer for over 15 years, where he ran the D.E.F.Y. (Drug Education for Youth) Program. He also worked for the Bridgeport Boys and Girls Club for more than five years, where his impact on young lives was profound and enduring.
He is predeceased by his father, Charles Peppers, Sr.; mother, Gayle High; sister, Martina Spivey; mother-in-law, Carmen Villanueva; and beloved son, Victor Charles Peppers.
Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn Peppers; his children, Ernest Leroy Peppers, Jr. and wife Jacquelina Peppers, Manuel Luis Peppers and wife Danielle Peppers, Dale Shaw, Raymond Nunez, and Nathan Nunez; his cherished grandson, Javier Cruz; his father-in-law, Victor Colon; and his siblings, Charles Peppers, Jr., Cynthia Eps, Dwight Peppers, Renail Edwards, and Mindy Durham. He also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who held a special place in his heart, along with his loyal companion, King.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Roy’s life on November 8, 2025 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 275 Union Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06607. Viewing will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place immediately after at Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06610. Roy will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, and friend—a man with a generous heart, a giving spirit, and an unbreakable will. His legacy of kindness, strength, and community service will live on in all those he touched.
