Edna Mae Nixon, age 81, of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at Gardner Heights Care Center in Shelton, CT. Edna Mae was born Friday, March 25th, 1932 in St. Stephens, SC the beloved youngest child born to Annie Belle Andrews and John Henry Bryant. Edna relocated to Bridgeport in 1972 and worked for many years as a seamstress at the CNC Coat Factory from which she was retired. Edna enjoyed cooking, sewing, lending a helping hand when needed and raising her children and many others. Whether kissing a skinned knee, hemming a new pair of slacks or simply making an afternoon snack, Edna's love and affection for her children, her own and others, knew no bounds. An active and beloved member of the choir at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Edna loved singing and her dulcet tones will be missed by all who had the pleasure of hearing her voice raised in worship and praise. Edna Mae is survived by her two daughters, Annie Keitt and Mae Dell Brown of Bridgeport, two sons, Elroy and Ricky Brown of Bridgeport; step-daughters Dorothy (Sam) Hill, Evelyn Nixon and Cynthia Nixon all of Bridgeport, Juanita Nixon of New Haven and stepson, Charlie (Robin) Nixon also of Bridgeport. Edna also raised and loved as her own Angela Nichols, Andre Smith Sr. and Andre Smith Jr., all of Bridgeport and Tasha Brown of Richmond, VA. Edna leaves a dedicated and special great-granddaughter, Chahyra Nixon better known to Grandma as "Charle's Baby" and very special sister-in-law, Helen Gathers of Jersey City, NJ. Edna, the memory of her hugs, her smile and her tender loving care will live on in the hearts of her 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Edna will reunite with her parents, Annie Belle Andrews and John Henry Bryant; first husband, Elmore Brown; second husband, Jessie Nixon Sr.; sister, Rosa Burgess; brother, James Burgess; beloved daughter, Blondell Brown-Owens; stepdaughters, Catherine and Mary Ellen Nixon; stepsons, Jessie Nixon Jr. and James Nixon; special grandson, Anthony Brown, and her sister-in-law, Cora Lee Burgess.
