Cornelius Lawrence 'Neal' Medas

Cornelius Lawrence Medas, 46 passed away on August 13, 2022 in New Haven, CT. He was known as "Neal" to all of those that loved him. Cornelius was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 15, 1976. Cornelius had three children Cyrus, Ciana, and Chace Medas with Karen Hernandez. He also leaves behind his mother and best friend Lucille Medas, brothers and sister Sebastian King, George Medas, Lawrence N. Medas JR, She'nelle Williams, and Jamal Medas; as well as 18 nieces and nephews and his adopted son Lucas Hernandez and grandson. Cornelius was predeceased by his father Captain Lawrence N. Medas. Cornelius graduated from Blue Mountain Academy, Hamburg, PA where he was the first African American student body President in the history of the school. He continued his education at Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in International Business. Cornelius (AKA Thunder) was a proud member of Omega Phi Delta Fraternity, O PHI! Upon graduation he continued with the family business, Medas Shipping and Incorporated Guaranteed Shipping. Cornelius' proudest moments were with the people he loved. He served as a football coach for the Bridgeport Chargers, soccer coach for AYSO soccer league, and a baseball coach for Caribe Baseball. Neal was always the #1 fan, loudest cheerleader, and father to all his kids friends. Cornelius was an active parent board member of Achievement First Middle School. As a member of the community and activist he participated with Black Lives Matter, League of Urban Gentleman, and many others. He received numerous awards and recognition for his services. We always believed he would run for Mayor. Cornelius was a God-fearing man. From a young child Neal was a member of Philadelphia Church of Universal Brotherhood. He was baptized at Philadelphia SDA, served as an usher, and a member of the choir. Cornelius moved to Bridgeport, CT with his family and was re-baptized and served as Deacon at Bridgeport Tabernacle Seventh Day Adventist Church. Friends may greet the family Sunday August 21, 2022 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm; A Celebration of Neal's Life will proceed from 7:00 to 8:00pm at Community Funeral Chapels located 789 Park Ave, Bridgeport, CT. 06604 Tel:203-334-9999.
