Christopher Columbus Fonville, Sr. entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. He was born September 25, 1937 in Richland, North Carolina to the late Eddie Fonville and Maggie White-Fonville. Christopher grew up in Norfolk, Virginia where he attended the Norfolk public schools. In 1966 he relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut where he met and married the love of his life, Catherine (Dodson) Fonville. Christopher was employed at Avco, now known as Honeywell. He worked as a Union Steward and Fork Lift Operator until he retired in 1987. He was a long-time member of Turner's Faith Temple, (now known as Cathedral of Praise) where he was a member of the Men's Chorus. Christopher enjoyed singing and was known for the many Gospel concerts he would sponsor throughout the city. Christopher also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Catherine T. Fonville; 2 sons, Christopher, Jr. and Carl Fonville; 3 brothers-in-law, Floyd, David and Leon; 4 sisters-in-law, Deloris, Ruby, Hattie and Mary; 1 special brother, Eli McNeil; 3 special sisters, Elouise, Gloria and Christina; 1 godson, Nathan Polite; 2 goddaughters, Tina Duberry and April; 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; 3 nieces, Mary, Carolyn and Dot; and of host of other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 2 brothers, John and Ike Fonville.
