Carmen Lydia Figueroa, lovingly known as Ata, age 81, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025. She was born on December 13, 1943, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, to the late Domingo Figueroa and Ana Maria Mercado.
Carmen was raised in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, and later relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1982 to be closer to her family. She was the beloved wife of Jose Ramon Garcia, with whom she shared a life filled with faith, love, and dedication.
A woman of deep faith and unwavering compassion, Carmen was known for her charismatic and humble spirit. She was a devoted pastor and chaplain, as well as the founder of the church La Hermosa, where she faithfully served her community and shared God’s word. She also worked for many years at Voltark Technologies, where she was admired for her work ethic and kindness.
Carmen will be remembered as a loving, patient, and wise woman—a true matriarch whose warmth and generosity touched everyone she met. She was an exceptional cook, a nurturing presence, and a source of strength and comfort to her family.
She is predeceased by her parents Domingo Figueroa and Ana Maria Mercado; siblings Noel Santos and Elba N. Colon; her children Miriam Candelario, Hector R. Candelario Jr., Hector R. Candelario, Marilyn Candelario, and Yesenia Candelario.
Carmen is survived by her husband Jose Ramon Garcia; her daughters Elizabeth Candelario and Doris Elizabeth Candelario; her stepchildren Nelson Garcia, Joel Garcia, Carlos Javier Garcia, Jackie Garcia, Nidia Garcia and Marisela Garcia; and her cherished grandchildren David R. Lopez Jr., Luz Y. Lopez, Viviana Lopez, Sonia N. Lopez, Josue R. Ruiz, Jose O. Soto Jr., Daniel Candelario, and Jose Josue Candelario. She also leaves behind 22 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren along with her loving siblings Erasmo Figueroa, Jean Carlos Figueroa, Marcos Figueroa, Carmen Ana Santos, Jose Santos, Luis Santos, Raquel Santos and Jose Figueroa.
Carmen’s legacy of faith, love, and family devotion will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
