Carmelo Ortiz, age 84, of Bridgeport, entered into heavenly rest Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Bridgeport Hospital. Carmelo served our country in the U.S. Army. Carmelo enjoyed dancing, very family oriented and a Yankee's fan. Carmelo was the rock of the family, he was loving, caring and strong-willed. Carmelo was born on Tuesday, July 2, 1929 in Ponce, Puerto Rico the first born to the late Manuel Ortiz and Cresencia Dones. His wife Dilta Lebron of 59 years of marriage survives Carmelo. Carmelo is survived by his children; Abigail Ortiz, son-in-law, Carlos Santiago, Mayra Ortiz, Maria Isabel Ortiz, son-in-law, Edwin Almodovar and Manuel Ortiz. Carmelo is also survived by his sister, Ana Segarra, his nephews; Benny Ortiz, Jose Santiago and nieces; Marisel Gallego, Carmen Herandez and Martha Santiago. Carmelo leaves to cherish his memories to his grandchildren; Dilta Milly Williams, Edwin Almodovar, Gilberto Rodriguez, Jose Almodovar, Carlos Santiago Jr., Joseph Almodovar, Cassandra Santiago, 16 great-grandchildren and a great great-granddaughter, Loyalty Hart. In death, Carmelo will be reunited with his sister, Haydee Segarra. Carmelo will be greatly missed by a host of extended family and friends.
